New Delhi: Nineteen opposition parties of the INDIA bloc have announced a coordinated campaign against the Election Commission over alleged irregularities in the electoral process and voter lists. Opposition MPs will march to the Election Commission headquarters in New Delhi on October 6. The decision was taken at a meeting of 19 parties in the capital on September 30.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said “Save Democracy” marches and demonstrations would be held across districts from October 2 to 8. The opposition also plans five major rallies, while a larger rally has been scheduled for November 1 in Delhi.

The opposition has raised concerns over changes to electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and questioned the functioning of the Election Commission. Kharge alleged that the poll panel was being treated as a “puppet” under government influence. The opposition has also demanded that future elections be conducted using ballot papers instead of electronic voting machines. The Election Commission has rejected the opposition’s allegations and defended its SIR-related processes.

The latest campaign follows a similar opposition march in August 2025 over allegations of “vote theft”. On August 11, 2025, Rahul Gandhi and several opposition MPs marched towards the Election Commission but were stopped by police, with multiple leaders detained during the protest.
