Patna: The alleged harassment of a Class 10 girl and her minor male friend in Jamui has triggered a political confrontation in Bihar, with Opposition leaders questioning the state government’s handling of law and order. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut demanded Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary’s resignation and described the situation as “maha goonda raj.” The phrase reflects Raut’s political characterization and is not an established official finding.
RJD leader and Bihar Assembly Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav also targeted the government over the incident, raising questions about the safety of women and girls in the state. He referred to an earlier statement by Choudhary while demanding accountability over the latest case.
Leaders from the ruling alliance, meanwhile, said the administration was taking action against those responsible. JD(U) leader and minister Shrawon Kumar assured that strict action would follow, while Jamui MLA and minister Shreyasi Singh said authorities acted after the incident came to light.
In the latest police development, key accused Nandan Yadav was injured in the leg during a police operation on Tuesday and taken to hospital. Police are continuing the investigation and examining the roles of other suspects.
The case has also drawn attention from women’s rights bodies, while police are pursuing legal action against those allegedly responsible.
