Patna: Widespread outrage has followed an alleged incident of harassment involving a Class 10 girl and her minor male friend in Bihar’s Jamui district. Police said the incident took place on the evening of September 19 as the two students were returning from coaching classes. A group of youths allegedly stopped their scooter, surrounded them and harassed the girl, while her friend was also assaulted.

Police have so far arrested three accused and said around seven people have been identified in connection with the incident. Raids are underway to trace the remaining suspects. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by a senior police officer, has also been formed to investigate the case and identify those still at large.

Authorities have also acted against the online circulation of material that revealed the identity of the minor victim. Jamui Cyber Police have registered a separate case against around 120 social-media profiles and urged the public not to share or circulate such content.

The Bihar State Women’s Commission has taken note of the incident and sought a detailed report from the district administration. Police said the investigation is being conducted impartially and that further action will follow based on the evidence collected.
