Ranchi: Rupi Soren, mother of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, passed away at a hospital in Ranchi on Wednesday evening. She was 78 years old.
Rupi Soren had been undergoing treatment at Hill View Hospital and Research Centre in Ranchi after being admitted on September 18 following complaints of breathing difficulties. Her condition had reportedly remained critical in recent days, and she was placed on life support.
She was the wife of veteran Jharkhand leader and former Chief Minister Shibu Soren, and the mother of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Her death comes as a major loss for the Soren family and has led to condolences from political leaders and people across Jharkhand.
Earlier on Wednesday, amid concerns over his mother’s health, Chief Minister Hemant Soren cancelled several scheduled engagements. A state cabinet meeting was also postponed.
